The Story Behind it All...
As a young lady, I struggled with issues around body image, self-worth, self-harm, and experienced many traumatic situations that have shaped the woman I am today. Upon entering the field of education, I couldn't help but notice how prominent these issues are and how detrimental they are to my female students. I have worked tirelessly for that past ten years attempting to integrate curriculum, workshops, clubs, and activities that help young ladies love and accept who they are and BE all they can be.
For six years, I have co-directed a camp with my great friend, Calvin Terrell. This camp (Empowertown/Camp ONE) is an opportunity for young people to break through barriers that lead to separation and discrimination. One day of camp is devoted to gender issues and getting "REAL" about issues that effect the connection and cooperation of men and women. Every year, this day is the most powerful for many of the attendees. This got me to thinking...how can I give them an opportunity for more?
Recently, I discovered an inherent need to follow my passion for cultivating self-love and finding passion within the feminine spirit. A class I take called Goddess Yoga has helped this need in me thrive. The feeling I get when I am truly embodying my inner goddess could probably move mountains. This lead to the idea of spending some time, uninterrupted, with other feminine spirits harnessing this love and power.
As the contemplation continued and ideas began to flow, out of it came...The Goddess Retreat. : )
